What is Off Campus Writers’ Workshop?

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, a workshop is “a usually brief intensive educational program for a relatively small group of people that focuses especially on techniques and skills in a particular field.” At Off Campus Writers’ Workshop, we meet weekly from September to May on Thursday mornings to hear a variety of speakers discuss the techniques and skills of writing, which, as it turns out, covers a lot of ground — short and long form, fiction and non, children’s and adult, poetry and prose, audience and point of view, marketing and publishing — to name just a few areas. Over the course of each year, we try to touch on as many of these topics as possible and present a wide variety of programming for our diverse membership, which is about 200 strong.

Join us on Thursday mornings to absorb valuable writing craft and procedural information from outstanding speakers, to network with writers who have useful experiences to share, and to offer your manuscripts for critique by speakers and discussion by our members. Ever since 1946 we have been encouraging and inspiring Chicago-area writers as they develop their writing avocations and careers. We will help you to achieve your individual writing goals while you enjoy camaraderie with others pursuing similar achievements.
